Frequently Asked Questions

How do I request materials using the online catalog?

Check out this blog post to learn how to request materials online. You will need to have an active library account and 14-digit barcode to request materials.

How will I find books that interest me if I'm not able to come into the library to browse the shelves?
We're happy to make recommendations based on your interests. We'll also be spotlighting books and movies in a variety of ways on our blog and social media accounts to let you know what we have on our shelves. Another great way to find suggestions is through NoveList Plus database, which you can access HERE through the Digital Maine Library collection of databases. Just search for your favorite books and NoveList will recommend similar titles to check out.

Can I borrow materials from other libraries?

Yes! Our inter-library loan service has resumed.

Can I request an item for same-day pickup?
Yes! Give us a call and let us know what you're looking for - as long as an item is on our shelves, we can have it ready for you. Requests made online through our catalog are not immediately received by us, and any requests made after 3pm are not received until the following day. The best way to guarantee same-day pickup is to call.

How will I know when to pickup my materials?
A staff member will personally contact you to confirm your materials are ready pickup and provide you with pickup details. Once your items are ready, you can stop by to pick them up at any time during our business hours.

Are you accepting returns?
Yes! Returns can go right in our return box in front of the library. Please remove items from bags before putting them in the bin (bags get stuck inside the book chute). NOTE: Please expect a delay of 3 to 7 days for items to clear from your account once you have returned them. All items that are returned to the library must be quarantined before we check them in and re-shelve them. Please disregard any overdue notices you may receive while your returned items are in quarantine.

Will you take my donations?

Yes, we are accepting donations. Donations can be brought into the library and given to a staff member at the front desk. Please do not put donations in the return bin or leave items outside the building.

If I have a card for another library, can I use their services, as well? What if that library is part of the Maine Reciprocal Borrowing Program?
We kindly ask that you only use the services of your home library at this time, even if you are a cardholder at another library. The Maine Reciprocal Borrowing program is currently on hold. To borrow items from other libraries, please use the online catalog (or give us a call!) to request items through inter-library loan.
